Special Announcements:
April 17, 2009: Day of Silence
On this 17th, students will be taking a vow of silence to represent the silence faced by LGBT students and their allies everyday. There are numerous ways to participate, such as handing out speaking cards. If you choose to participate, we have drafted a letter on behalf of the ACLU for you and your friends and colleagues to give to relevant administrators and faculty to explain the event, what it means, and how they can facilitate your efforts.

MSSC encourages everyone to participate and to show support for LGBT students!
____________
The MS Safe Schools Coalition and some of its partners will be putting
on a picnic February 28th from 12-2pm at Brighton Park in Clinton,
MS.
We have three goals with this picnic:
1) to raise awareness of our coalition and to answer any questions the
public might have about our purposes
2) to counter the "ex-gay therapy" conference in Clinton the first
weekend of this month
3) to give us a chance to partner with other LGBTQ supportive groups
that will show a gay-positive presence in Mississippi.
We have created an event on Facebook through the MSSC Facebook group:
You can check out the facebook group --here--
Download a flyer for the picnic --here-- and spread the word by telling your friends and family.
So please join the MS Safe Schools Coalition and partnering LGBTQ-
friendly organizations for a lunch OUT (and proud). Following the
"anti-gay" therapy conference held in Clinton in early February, we
want to make our presence as LGBTQ sisters, brothers, neighbors,
allies and friends known. Come mingle, learn about the MS Safe Schools
Coalition and other organizations, and enjoy lunch on us. Bring
friends, family, and energy.

The Steering Committee for the Mississippi Safe Schools Coaltion established an agenda for the upcoming year, with target goals to reach in 3 months, 6 months, and a full year. Goals include increased public outreach, gathering more surveys and stories to build a case for policy change, establishing and facilitating more GSA growth around the State, and anticipating for the next annual MSSC Conference.
Remember to spread the word about MSSC! Download a flyer promoting MSSC from our "get involved" page and put them up in your schools or workplaces.
Also, remember, for MSSC to begin putting pressure for policy and social change, we need to collect more stories and surveys. Head over to the Get Involved! page to fill out a survey.
